15th February marks International Childhood Cancer Day. A day the world unites to spotlight the urgent realities facing children battling cancer. For Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana (LCCG), it was more than a day of awareness. It was a day of action.
Blood is one of the most critical ,yet often scarce resources in the treatment protocol for children undergoing chemotherapy. Without reliable access to safe blood and blood products, survival becomes even more fragile.
To bridge this gap, LCCG partnered with the University of Ghana Medical Students’ Association at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, alongside Lions Clubs International District 418, to organize a dedicated blood donation drive in support of our brave children.
The result?
140 pints of blood raised.
One hundred and forty lifelines.
One hundred and forty renewed chances at treatment, strength, and survival.
With the technical support of the National Blood Service Ghana, and partnership from Nova Premier Ventures Limited, these future student doctors stepped beyond the lecture halls and into leadership roles, responding directly to the needs they witnessed daily on the wards.
The exercise was strengthened by the generous support of:
Korle bu Teaching Hospital, The Ghana Blood Bank, Rooswood Ghana Limited, who provided refreshing yogurt drinks for donors, Esports Association Ghana, who kept donors energized through engaging digital sports activities, the unwavering commitment of Lions District 418 members who rolled up their sleeves to donate
LCCG is deeply moved by the selflessness of these students, partners, and supporters as well as individuals who see the survival gap up close and choose to act. This is how we close the gap in childhood cancer care. Not just with words. But with blood. With partnership. With community.
