Diana’s journey began with something as ordinary as her daughter Petra’s stomach ache. A friend advised her to visit the Children’s Hospital “just to be safe.” What she expected to be a routine check quickly spiralled into a storm that changed her world forever. Within days, Petra was transferred to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
“I packed enough for one day,” Diana recalls. “But one day became a week… then two… then three… then a month.”
There, in the quiet spaces between tests, prayers, and long waits, she heard the words no parent ever wants to hear: her little girl had leukaemia.
With the support of LCCG, Petra underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy and surgeries. She fought bravely. And Diana fought right beside her, celebrating each small victory, clinging to hope, and holding her daughter close. After months of treatment, Petra went into remission. But just a week before her fourth birthday, six months into remission, Petra passed away. Diana’s world shattered.Yet even in her grief, something remarkable emerged.

At LCCG, our families are always kept close even after tragedies such as these. Diana was invited to join LCCG’s Skills Development Programme, enrolling in the 3rd cohort of our bakery training. She walked in timid, heartbroken, and uncertain. But as the weeks passed, she found healing in kneading dough, shaping pastries, decorating treats and in the warm circle of mothers who held her through her pain.
Today, Diana is a proud small business owner, selling her beautifully crafted pastries to support herself and her son, Kofi. She has also returned to the very patient hostel that sheltered her during Petra’s treatment, now working to support the children and families. She prepares warm, nourishing meals for mothers on the same difficult journey she once walked and gently guides them with empathy only someone who has lived it can offer.
In her own quiet way, Diana has become a patient navigator – a beacon of compassion.
Her story is a powerful reminder of why your support matters. Because when you give, you are not just funding treatment. You are rebuilding lives, restoring dignity, and sparking hope.
