On September 25, Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana (LCCG) celebrated the graduation of the third cohort of its Bakery Training Class under the Skills Development Programme. Each year, this initiative unfolds new stories of perseverance and purpose   and this cohort was no different.

Gracing the occasion was Professor Lorna Awo Renner, Paediatric Oncologist Consultant and some doctors and nurses who joined families and friends to celebrate the achievements of our trainees.

Over three transformative months, 16 determined participants learned to bake a variety of items including bread, ring donuts, pies, cakes, cookies, waffles and many other products. Out of the 16, 11 participants completed the course and graduated proudly, ready to start small enterprises and improve their livelihoods.

This cohort also played a remarkable role in the “Walk for Hope, Step for Change” Awareness Walk, preparing and serving 400 packs of freshly made donuts that brought smiles to participants and supporters alike.

Among the graduates was Emmanuel, our first-ever male trainee.

Once a commercial bus driver, Emmanuel’s life changed dramatically after his son was involved in an accident that left him without both hands and a leg. Unable to continue working, Emmanuel joined the bakery program seeking a fresh start. Reflecting on his experience, he shared:

“I came here shattered, but today, I’m leaving with hope and skill.”

Because of the unwavering generosity of our partners and donors, 11 families now return home not only with new skills, but with renewed strength, hope, and purpose.

Each graduate received a certificate of completion and a set of startup equipment to start a new business and their baking journey.

LCCG extends heartfelt gratitude to World Child Cancer for their continued partnership and support in this transformative program.Together, we are not just teaching skills. We are restoring dignity, hope, and a future for families who need it most.
