As part of the activities marking Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September, Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana, in partnership with the Millennium Marathon, organized a 5km walk on September 7, 2024. The event aimed to highlight the critical role early detection plays in improving survival rates and outcomes for children with cancer.
Held at the iconic Independence Square, the marathon brought together over 1,000 participants from all walks of life—professional athletes, childhood cancer survivors, healthcare professionals, and supporters from groups such as the Lions Club and the Supporters Union of Ghana. The diverse gathering was a testament to the strength of community and the collective effort needed to support children and families affected by cancer.
The marathon wasn’t just about the race; it symbolized a step toward a brighter future for children with cancer. Throughout the event, participants were educated on the importance of early detection, the challenges children with cancer face, and the urgent need to demystify misconceptions about childhood cancer. Merchandise sales raised funds to further support ongoing awareness and treatment efforts.
We are deeply grateful to all the participants, volunteers, and sponsors, including Provident Insurance Company, Prudential Bank Limited, and First Bank Ghana, for their invaluable support in making this event a reality. Thanks to their contributions, our mission to educate the public on recognizing early warning signs and symptoms of childhood cancer was accomplished.
Together, we are making a lasting impact. Let’s keep running, supporting, and spreading hope for the brave children and families facing childhood cancer.
