For children battling cancer, access to the right treatment can make the difference between waiting and receiving care when it matters most.

A Child Should Never Have to Wait for a Bed
Imagine arriving at the hospital with your child after hearing the words no parent ever wants to hear, “Your child has cancer.”
Now imagine being told there is no space.
This is part of the reality facing families seeking childhood cancer care at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
The existing pediatric oncology ward has limited capacity, while the demand for care continues to place enormous pressure on the unit. LCCG has described the current situation as a serious space challenge, with the existing ward and additional spaces struggling to meet demand.
For families, overcrowding is more than a facility problem. It can mean longer waits, difficult treatment conditions and additional emotional and financial pressure at an already painful time.
We Are Building a Place for Healing
Lifeline for Childhood Cancer Ghana is working to complete a 40-bed Pediatric Oncology Treatment Centre at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
This facility is designed to expand the capacity available for children receiving cancer care and create an environment better suited to their treatment and recovery.
The planned centre includes spaces such as:
- Pediatric oncology treatment beds
- Consulting rooms
- Playrooms
- Isolation areas
- Spaces for healthcare and support staff
- Areas designed to improve the experience of children and their families
The project is part of LCCG’s wider commitment to making childhood cancer care a national health priority and improving access to quality treatment for children across Ghana.
